This red, white and blue board wasn't finished in time for the U.S. semiquincentennial but you don't need to tell your friends that. Just load it up with good crackers, cheese and fruit and let them think about the "patriotic" colors.
Carob is such a unique wood. Hard to work with but beautiful. Red heartwood and creamy white sapwood, it's often attacked by wood borers while alive and growing and they leave their holes and tunnels for the woodworker to discover. These need to be cleaned out and the slab must be sterilized at high heat to kill any critters. Only then can I pour the beautiful resin and begin the finishing process.
Finished with a 100% food safe hardwax oil finish, it is ready for many years of service. Just wipe it down after use and let it dry. No soaking or dishwasher.
